About the artwork

The lion at the lower left is often the second thing the eye catches, set beneath the goddess and packed with the same tight bands of pattern that run through the whole image. Maa Kali appears frontally with many arms, weapons, and ritual objects, while one foot presses onto a figure below her. The title points to the deity, and the image presents her as a commanding devotional presence inside a scalloped arch. The palette is narrow but forceful. Turquoise fills the background in large clear shapes, while black line and cream ground carry the figure, border, and ornament with sharp contrast, and the yellow accents near the head push the face forward. The technique depends on precise contour, repeated dots, stripes, and floral-like motifs across clothing, limbs, and the pedestal. And the surface reads flat and matte, with little modeling, so the image relies on pattern density and silhouette more than shadow. This tall narrow format suits a pooja room best, though it can also hold a slim hallway wall where the vertical frame and centered figure won't get lost beside furniture. The medium appears to be ink line work with flat color on paper.
